Welcome to Debbie Howard Counselling & Psychotherapy Services

Therapy in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Hello, my name is Debbie and I am a licensed psychotherapist/counsellor. Certifications, references and qualifications can be seen on request.

I am dedicated to helping and empowering people by delivering short and long term therapy to individuals, young adults, children and families.

My work as a therapist is very rewarding to me, and I consider myself fortunate to be able to share my client's experiences with them.

I work as an integrative counsellor which means that therapy is adapted to find the best approach to suit your needs. This can be Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Person-centred, or Psychodynamic.

Whichever approach we use I will ensure that you feel understood and comfortable enough to trust me so that we can explore your thoughts, feelings and fears together.

I have an 18-year educational/school working background, working with children from the age of three to eighteen. This experience has given me the necessary skills needed to work with:

• Behaviour Management

• Emotional regulation

• Special Education (ADHD, ADD, Autism Spectrum Disorder)

• Safeguarding

• Art and Play Therapy

• Emotional Resiliency

My passion is to support adults & families who need to learn more about the challenges that children encounter at

home and at school.

After school restraint ( behaviour & emotional release) is an area of work that I have seen increase due to children repressing their emotions. Learning how to regulate emotions can be insightful and beneficial.

Speak in Confidence

Therapy takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy – and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

A problem shared

Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression – many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Therapy gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems – and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

Make better, healthier new choices

Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

What issues can therapy help with?

People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through therapy:

  • Depression
  • Problems with confidence or self-esteem
  • Anger management
  • Issues relating to sexuality
  • Difficulties at work or in retirement
  • Problems with family or school life
  • Feelings of stress or anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Relationship problems
  • Grief, loss or bereavement
  • Problems with addiction
  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress
  • Abuse
  • Concerns with behaviour
