Welcome to Debbie Howard Counselling & Psychotherapy Services

Therapy in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Hello, my name is Debbie. I am a qualified integrative, accredited therapist offering in person or online therapy to both adults and young people.

Being an integrative therapist means that my work can be adapted to meet my clients individual needs. This will be achieved by using different modalities such as ; person centred, cognitive behaviour therapy and psychodynamic therapy. I believe that this approach ensures the best outcome for my clients therapeutic journey with me.

My empathic approach will help to build our therapeutic relationship which is vital for growth and change.

I also work closely with local schools where I provide 1:1 therapy and group interventions for young people. Focusing on areas such as anxiety, emotional regulation , ADHD and Autism and friendships..

I have a 18 year educational background which has put me in a valuable position when working with young people and their families.

Towards the latter part of working in education I was a PSHE (Personal ,Social. Health, Emotional ) cover teacher and a family support worker. I also completed my training as a volunteer counsellor at a secondary school which was very rewarding.

I recently worked for a local children's mental health charity. This role saw me working closely with children ,their families and educational settings such as schools, colleges and universities.

Most common areas of work with young people are;

Anxiety

Emotional Regulation

School issues

ADHD / Autism

Family issues

Trauma

Low self esteem and confidence issues.

Providing young people with the knowledge and tools to support their mental health is essential as they develop throughout this ever changing world.

I consider myself to be hardworking, dedicated and loyal to my clients and my profession.

I am continually looking at ways to enhance my practice .

So I regularly partake in CPD which provides me with further skills needed to help support my clients .

I recently trained as a trauma-informed practitioner. This training covered areas in; child abuse, trauma and the body (dissociation & somatization), working with dissociative disorders in clinical practice and working with shame and trauma-informed practice.

More recent CPD that I have taken is;

  • ADHD coaching (Diploma)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Diploma
  • Child Counselling Diploma
  • Inner Child Healing (Diploma)
  • Play Therapy Course
  • Art Therapy Course
  • Addiction Therapy Diploma
  • Child Sexual Abuse training
  • Working with Shame training

I believe that continual professional development is paramount in ensuring I stay up to date and relevant for my clients.

Speak in Confidence

Therapy takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy – and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

A problem shared

Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression – many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Therapy gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems – and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

Make better, healthier new choices

Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

What issues can therapy help with?

People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through therapy:

  • Depression
  • Problems with confidence or self-esteem
  • Anger management
  • Issues relating to sexuality
  • Difficulties at work or in retirement
  • Problems with family or school life
  • Feelings of stress or anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Relationship problems
  • Grief, loss or bereavement
  • Problems with addiction
  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress
  • Abuse
  • Concerns with behaviour
